I am building a flyback driver using a tl494 with a totem pole pair driving a irf740 mosfet. After much research I have decided to use a quasi-resonant snubber which consists of a fast diode and a 0.01uf 3kv cap, both in parallel and in parallel with the mosfet. When first applying power the voltage spike at the drain is about 200V but keeps rising steadily above the mosfet rated voltage and keeps rising. Why is this happening and how can I stabilise it somewhere below the mosfets rated voltage. Supply voltage is 40V DC and operating frequency is 100khz. Thanks.
