I'm looking into building a DRSSTC, but I also want to audio modulate it as a normal SSTC. What type driver could I do this with? I haven't seen too many DRSSTCs with PLL, and what i was thinking was to audio modulate that when i want, then just short the resonant capacitor for normal SSTC operation. Does this sound feasable, or is there a better way? I want a coil similar to steves DRSSTC .5 (fairly small).

A DRSSTC is typically pulsed and the only way to really audio modulate it would be to modulate the PRF pulse frequency to simple tones.

So the best way would be to turn the interrupter completely on so it runs CW, but also short out the resonant capacitor, correct>? And do many DRSSTC's use PLL like the 4046?

Depends on how you plan to audio modulate. If you are doing high side modulation (i.e. modulating the power bus into the bridge), then bringing the intteruptor high (always ON) would be the first thing. Then probably jumping out the primary capacitor, although you still may want a series blocking capacitor in there. You may have to play with coupling as well.

For low side modulation, you'll need a low side modulator circuit in addition.

Not sure about PLL drivers. I think Steve "Thomas Dolby" Conner has some PLL driven DRSSTCs.
