Yes, there was a lot more to that story than the press made out, too long to post here, but basically it boiled down to being "one of those things", bad luck, which we couldn't do much about. The pier is derelict, bordering on condemned and it was a relatively small (about 20 metres of a 2000 metre long pier) section that burnt. and the damaged cable was repaired within a couple of days. BTW the lighthouse was the year before and they still invited us back The main thing was no one was hurt and the insurance premiums were paid. I have a panoramic photo of the damage somewhere.
