I regularly attend the Cheesehead thon and have had my large DRSSTC (along with others) for the past few years now. I had the pleasure of meeting up with Christopher there... last years thon was the best indeed . William, i live near Chicago, so if im actually at home the weekend of (and not at school here in Champaign IL, but chances are i will be home preparing whatever i plan to demo) it would be fun to meet up at my place (i can show off toys ). I also am a member of the Geek Group, which also hosts several open house events where there are often TC's, high energy discharge demo's, and whatever anyone else happens to bring along. Thats in Kalamazoo MI, you can check their site for upcomming events (). I dont recomment making a long haul unless its for one of their bigger events.
I will try to remember and post about any upcomming events of interest that i hear about from various other sources.
And... you can always try to organize your own event. It was my inquiry about a thon in the midwest that started the Wisconsin thon. Just have to see if there is interest, and then find a good place to make some noise .

Sounds good Steve! There are a couple of your toys I would like to see a demonstration of. I am planning on lugging my big DRSSTC up there along with a few others. Looks like a bunch of fun. I hope I get to see DC's Vortex cannon fire! Man I have a bunch of stuff to get done by then.

Yeah, too bad you can't make a decent living off tesla coils. Steve would make a buttload. I'd give anything to come to the Cheesehead. Even if I had the money, I don't have a car, and my parents wouldn't like me leaving either. Stinks. OK, I promise I won't whine any more.
If I did want to host a 'thon, what's the general etiquette? I assume the host supplies the power, and possibly lunch/dinner or maybe we could chip in and order pizza. Do you need to have a certain setup for the power? I've got 50A 240V? I guess no three phase would be able to participate. I might like to host one in a couple of years once I get some better coils finished. Maybe I can get the man across the street to loan us his rodeo barn for the day. He'd love to see the coils I'm sure.

A big room with lots of power. And no RCD's on the line. And some really understanding Housemates/Partner/Parents. And good neighbours, but that doesn't matter so much. And your Parents/Housemates/Partners would have to be ok about people taking the sockets off the walls and hardwiring OLTC's into them. Trivial stuff like that. First name terms with the local constabulary is probably preferable too when somebody thinks it would be fun to fire up their KW+ DRSSTC at 11 at night. The drones previously referred to as "neighbours" (also known as "them next door") don't seem to find any humour in these acts of technological might.. And you must supply beer. Lots of beer. With the stipulation that the keys to the beer fridge are only made available when the last power semiconductor within driving distance has been reduced to a shower of sparks and a sweet smelling carcinogenic haze.

Maybe we can meet for a dinner/lunch Friday or Sunday, I will pay for a round of brew!
Might have to take you up on that one .
I ought to be there with the big DRSSTC and whatever else will fit in the car. Theres gonna be a lot of driving that weekend. Gotta drive back from school (115 miles), then up to baraboo (210 miles). Thats about 80 bucks in gas .
