Just thought I'd post this in case anyone here can shed any light on it...

I own a Sony S-536D DVD player, that has gone out of calibration (I get the C13/no disc error, after it makes some bad noises) however some discs play fine.

I know I need to calibrate the player for dual layer discs to fix this - but I cannot get in to the calibration/service menu on the player! After about an hour of Googling, none of the stuff I have found works (the most common being press 'title, clear, and power' to enter the service menu, apparently this should work on any Sony DVD player). However it just does nothing.

Edit : It's alright now, solved, finally made it into service menu and re-calibrated. smile

Can you tell us how you finally got into the service menu? It would help if anyone else has the same problem in future.

I beleive you have to do the following,
Switch on the unit, and then using the remote press 'Title', 'Clear', and then the 'Standby'.....will put the machine into service mode.

Yes that's how I did it in the end, the odd thing is I don't remember it working before, then suddenly it worked after restarting the player rolleyes

Another problem I had is that the player switched to NTSC video output when in service mode, not PAL. To get around this I had to hook it to the composite input on my TV card and set it to NTSC smile
