That certainly is stylish.

I saw the August 1999 solar eclipse from Romania and it was freaking sweet! It is so wierd to have it get darker and darker until it is night time out, but the wierdest thing was this kid on bicycle riding during the middle of an eclipse. He wasn't even looking at the eclipse. If you ever have the chance to see one do it. It is awesome. Its like a glowing lifesaver in the sky.

I remember seeing an almost full eclipse here in Philadelphia back in the 1984 when i was in 5th grade. It was an annular eclipse which the best location was just south of Philadelphia. It did get pretty dark out.

I have a feeling if you stare at the sun long enough and smoke a couple of what ever it is that woman is smoking, you would see some pretty neat stuff in the sky all the time. Now, where are my Doritos. confused

Hi,
Tried to take some IR photos with homemade filter but my camera decided that it was still too bright :(

Was going to double up the filter but then my batteries gave out!

I remember seeing an eclipse in the UK when I was but a wee lad.
Dad lit a candle and used held it under a plate of glass toput a film of carbon on it so we could look through it.
One of the strangest things about an eclipse is the fact that no matter what time of day it is, birds still go to roost.

Q.
Are there any noticeable effects on tides during an eclipse?

If the camera does not have manual settings for exposure then adding one or two CDs in front of the lens works well. Make sure they are aluminium then they will stop most of the visible and invisible wavelengths.

When looking at the sun it is not a good idea to use homemade filters. Most of them pass a lot of IR and quite a few people damage their eyes during every eclipse.

These things don't work and can pass up to 90% of infrared:
Photographic film
Floppy disks
Recordable CDs
Blackened glass
+hundred other clever ideas

You can buy mylar film specifically sold for making homemade solar filters. Just realize, these are for white light viewing only. Search for these on GOOGLE.
