It happened late at night (when rats lie down to sleep in a cosy spot.

He is cosy now... cheesey

The resident electrical current however took exception to this and threw a hissy fit and instantly cooked the rat.
The resultant fireball rose rapidly through the switchboard decimating eleven circuit breakers in its path.

TDU that is just gross, funny but gross, the fact that you would hear about that then go take a pic is messed up.

My electronics teacher used to work on substations. He got called in once to replace 2 big, Al bus bars that had sizable holes blown in the sides. During the replacement he found a carbonized cat! It had jumped between the 2 phases and they arced to the cat! He didn't take any photos but he said it looked and felt like a charcoal brick.

Once while at my computer, I detected the distinct aroma of a burning smell. When I looked over to the back of my PC I noticed smoke emerging from the PSU fan. When I dismantled it, I found that a gecko had managed to find its way in and get fried. sad I was quite surprised that it had managed to gain entrance through the fan, especially when the slots aren't particularly large, I can only wonder what it could have thought was in there.... confused

No I didn’t! It is hilarious to imagine a rat forcing itself in there, finding the bus bars warm, laying down and then being carbonized/vaporized. Bam! Ewww what a mess ick! ill

I didn't take the photo, it was the electricians. Might have been needed for insurance purposes. Hospital is having major upgrades and is full of holes at present big enough to get small earthmoving equipment through.
I was a bit surprised that the rat was still recognisable, or at least I would have been if it wasn't for my experiences trying to blow up a sausage with a cap bank. At 3kJ the sausage was completely untouched.
Pics and video here Link2

Hi TDU,

so a hotdog may be used as a good bleeder resistor smile

I guess you could blow it up by putting wire trough it (plasma cooked hotdog)

cheers

But how often do you jab a wire through yourself and then turn on the power?
I'm amazed that the sausage was so unscathed.
I was expecting at least some burst skin on it.
