This does not make scense. EMP stands for electromagnetic pulse. This ultimatly leads to the topic of WMD which we do not discuss.

Please be more detailed in what you are trying to find out

I assume this is just to demonstrate the principle. I suggest you use a capacitor and a triggered spark gap to generate a pulse that you pick up some distance away with a schmitt trigger like a 74HCT14 connected to a simple antenna.

how many volts and F would the cap need.Whats a triggered spark gap.finally how would i make one that could actuly wreck something, even if it is 5cm away.(just for a science project not a wmd).

You need high voltage and low capcitance and a very fast risetime. Most 4HV members have failed to wreck anything using an EMP so I would not consider it a realistic project.

He could build an very large cap bank and then discharge it into a coil. A cheap digital watch would most likely fail.

I managed to set off over-voltage protection circuits... it was a BATTERY powered TC I was building (no connection to mains), and I did not know why the gap would not fire
I took the secondary off and fooled around with the gap size and tap... then the gap went off once, and the LCD TV a few feet from me went off and back on... then it happened again when the gap fired again (after having to reset the NST and Inverter in the power supply)

I would not recommend trying this as it is far too unpredictable.... plus you would have to pay for anything you destroyed...

Make a Marx generator. Lots of info about those on the web, and they're known to destroy electronics at random if you're careless about grounding them.

It would be next to impossible to destroy a cheap electrical device. The smaller the transistors the more likely it is to fail. Try a cpu. They often fail if you look at it funny.
