I do lots of stargazing and mostly astrophotography. I see you have two Orion scopes which are very good scopes for the price - they are definitely great scopes for both the beginner and the advanced observer.

I currently have a 3" Williams Optics Fluorite refractor, Takahashi 4" Refractor, and just got a Takahashi FSQ-106 refractor for widefield photography which is an awesome scope for the money.

I have a Celestron NexStar 114 telescope, which we take out the the desert every few years. My mom ca find some stars on her own, but I am pretty much limited to the sun and the big dipper angry

We can almost find stars using the little computer controller thingie with the nexstar, but we have yet to make it work reliably. We usually just look at planets (mars/jupiter/Saturn), although we have tried a few deep space objects.

There is still plenty to see even in light polluted skies with a telescope. Many of the brighter Messier objects are visible, and planets are unaffected by light pollution. In fact some will claim planets are better viewed under light polluted skies due to contrast between planet and background sky is less.

Where do you live Bored Chemist. I'm sure there is somewhere nearby that is dark . . .
