Hard to resist dusting off the cap bank after a couple of busy weeks at work.

This is about 6 m of 26g wire and 3kJ at 5.5kV 225uF pulse caps. The red stuff is burning insulation I suppose. Rather a different picture to the thinner wire.

Check out the previous Exploding stuff thread.

Camera is a Nikon D70S which was a prize I won in a newspaper photo contest with my best Tesla pic. It is 6MP SLR with shutter speed set for 2 secs during which time I pull my string to trip the switch. Auto ISO and aperture take care of the exposure levels. I have a solid tripod and an IR remote to avoid shake. I set the autofocus before and lock it

On thinking about this pic the orange stuff is not burning insulation but red hot copper wire fragments. The detail looks quite strange as it all flies around in pieces.

That looks really great. Congratulations, you have done it again, Peter!
I think I'll go and buy a D70 now, I was planning to get one for a long time, my aging Coolpix is just not up to the task as it does not have manual controls whatsoever. Ups, sorry for being off-topic.

Just keep telling the Mod that he (me) takes cool pics and you will get away with it. (insert knowing wink smiley - where is it?).

It is a great camera even though I have only scratched the surface with it.

This pic is of heavier wire ?20g at 3kJ. The wire exploded at the ends. The radiating lines are molten copper fragments and not lens flare.

Perhaps to add to the photos and to show that you dont need that much power (although TDU those shots are awesome). These are from a 27 joule cap bank, 3 photoflash caps in parallel.

First shot, steel wool. 2nd and 3rd, aluminium strips. 4th, thin strand of copper.
