Where is possible to find a silicon steel rod? It has some interesting magnetic properties, such as high saturation magnetization and low conductivity, that makes it promising for use in coilguns.

i was also wondering, is it possiable to melt down the transformer E and I to recast it easily?

It would be difficult unless you have a metal foundry in your backyard. Maybe induction heating would help to obtain rod shapes but it is difficult and dangerous
