Just so everyone knows- from my first hand experience...
Bought a Liteon DVD player, the burner diode is an open can- no lense, just bare to the laser diode. Anyways, very difficult to extract without breaking Just got a 24 dollar piece of junk sitting around now Anyone have an extra CLOSED can burner diode from a high "X" (16-20) they would be willing to sell? How frustrating.

You should be able to use the open can diodes, especially if you are planning to put them in a commercial colminator. To extract them just carefully snap the zinc assembly arround the diodes (usually they are mounted on a small plate that is glued to a larget assembly, use a diagonal cutters to snap the glue, then use 2 pliers to snap the zinc plate the diode is pressed into). You have to be careful to not disturb the wire bonds, or the front face of the diode for that matter, but you should dbe able to drop it into a colminator without too much trouble. The only piece missing is a glass window, which will actually increase your efficiency a little.

EDY19, i have a fair few 16X burner diodes for about $25US + postage, these are the BARE diodes straight from sony, so they have no solder on them what so ever. If you want it pre-mounted in a module i also have them for $30US + postage. PM me if you want some. If you dont trust me, check out laserpointerforums.com under the username "Things".
