Slow scan TV sounds interesting - I've heard of it but never dabbled.
Slow scan TV showing members projects photos could be an idea - then it splits up the project somewhat. someone can write software to accept photo uploads, someone else makes and hosts the TX, then we all work on recievers? Just throwing ideas out...

Any project that you do becomes a 4hv group project if you write about it here while you're building it. Other members give you help and advice, and if you act on this, your project ends up with a little bit of everyone in it. I think the best example of this was the DRSSTC. Pretty much all of the original DRSSTC builders were 4hv members, and we had lengthy technical discussions about it on the board and in the chat rooms.
Other cool things that came from 4hv members were the IGBT diagonal halfbridge coilgun and the first railgun using electrolytic capacitors that actually worked
Since the board has so many members with interests that vary widely, it would be very difficult to find something that involved everyone. But we seem to have several research groups that all work quite effectively. Maybe an idea would be to have something like SETI@HOME that members could run on their computers, except solving complex HV related models like a genetic coilgun optimizer, a 3-D finite element model of electric sparks, or whatever.
