Dont get it in the face! hehe.

I remember my first coils, it was an exciting time. Yours looks to perform much better than my earliest ones smile.

Thanks for the comments
SteveW : I have a remote switch to turn on the NST; so I am a metre in front of the coil in the picture .

However, I did hae a problem with internal arcing of the secondary and tried to "carefully" look down the former while operating my deadman's handle .. bzzzz! right on the tip f my nose !
YES! YOU MAY NOW ALL LAUGH . 200KV , even at 1mA come quite sharp!

Yeah much better than my first coil. I got 8" sparks but then my transformer cracked in half.

Better to smoke your secondary than yourself! suprised Personally, I don't even do the chicken stick thing. Haven't even tried it once in years of coiling. Guess I'm just too chicken wink But hey, if you're going to scale up, best get used to standing way back, lest you take a fifteen-foot-long multi-megavolt arc to the forehead like D.C. Cox did a few years back. I think he even had a pacemaker at the time. He has more lives than most people, it seems. Best not to test your own luck, IMO.

BUT... Congratulations on getting a coil going! They're a lot of fun. It's not just about building up anymore; there are many exciting topologies to play with once you get going.

Cheers,
Aaron, N7OE
