I'm tired of failed attempts at replicating other peoples work and hence i think im going to order the mini brute boards, i was going to ask though if anyone has had any trouble with the minibrute system in the past? I think i would also get the advanced interrupter and a nice spun aluminum toroid. If anyone has any advice concerning the minibrute design or knows a good place to get toroids (i know there ~150 usd) then help would much be appreciated. I was also wondering id i could perhaps replace part of the advanced interrupter board with an ipod? any thought on the matter would be greatly appreciated, you guys rock.

I personally wouldn't risk connecting an ipod to a tesla coil unless through a optical cable, but i was thinking something similar, with "audio" tracks and a buffer of some sort, with several different pulse rates, off times...

I am quite sure that the minibrute is a DRSSTC, and likewise won't do very well at playing normal audio--because the only thing you can change is the duration/frequinecy of the interupter. You can play tones, but that is about it. Perhapse you are thinking of Dan's Plasmasonic?

In any case, I haven't heard anything bad about them smile

The miniBrute system is your typical generic DRSSTC with a few bells and whistles. Its not really different from any other DRSSTC out there with the exception it has some nice panel mounted features and ease of build since the boards are available.

As far as toroids go, John Freau on the TCML list makes some VERY NICE spun toroids which are very reasonable. If i remember correctly, he just posted another ad on TCML regarding new toroids he just made which are available. Search for "John Freau Toroids" on GOOGLE to get his website.
