The cost of the cap was not the issue, it is the labor and service call. I just dropped two new 2.5 ton AC’s on my house at a cost of over $10,000 and for an extra $1,400, got the 10 year service plan. Just to have a service person come out and sniff a Freon leak cost $400.00 (standard fee in Arizona) so the 10 year service plan was a good investment. In the summer you may have to wait two to three weeks just to have them come out due to the 115 degree days.
I do not think your coil blew that cap, so at least you can not get the blame for the down AC.

This sounds like just a bad connection to the vertical deflection coil (90% of TV faults are due to a bad connection/solder joint), try to hit it hard or open it up and "prod around" on the circuit board with an insulated stick and watch the picture with the set powered on.
