Has to be pcb mountable, prefer low profile, ttl input, for new project

Thanks,
Paul

What about finding a little relay that can operate on 5V or just wire up a transistor so you can run it off a 9 volt battery with the base of the transistor connected to the TTL. Then fill up the relay with oil- However, I guarantee that you will not get quite the rise times you want. Care to tell some details? Not many switches have less than 10ns rise times, so a high voltage one is going to be hard to come by. Rise times on IRFP460 mosfets are still 59ns...

The only devices I know of that can do anything like that are the HV solid-state switches from Behlke (link) Link2

If you want a 2ns rise time, I think you'll actually need a hell of a lot more than 2mA from your switch. Your circuit will have capacitance, and it will probably take several amps to charge it to a few kV in 2ns.

It was 10nS, not 2nS, but yeah, I agree.

When I said "switch" I of course meant "some kind of solid state switch" , not electromechanical.

The capacitance is about 5nF....I'm just driving some electrodes in a small beam system, but there is a 4.7nF cap at the plate I understand. I just mentioned the low current spec so that people would think in terms of "small package".

I have a low duty cycle ~ 10% so I could probably pre-charge a cap from the low current supply in the off-time in order to get the current neccessary to attain my risetime.

Just trying to put 10lbs of *&#$ into a 2lb package,

Thanks for the Behlke link. They have some nice stuff.

If you dont find anything solid stuff, think at a triggerd spark gap configuration.

I think the best choice for your project is a krytron, KN 22 or simillar made by EG&G. Have a look to my tube museum Link2 http://www.roehren-museum.de/index_eng.html

thanks guys, I'll check out the krytrons, triggered gaps, etc.

Krytrons are pretty much your only option, for exaple they are usind in q-switched lasers where ns risetime is critical.
they are quite hard to find, but if they show up on ebay they are usually quite cheap. Just watch out not to get a "removed from working equipment" one, they only have a usefull live measured in 10s of hours.
