ballast for NST

YES I HAVE SEARCH IT BEFORE POSTING ... ONLY MOT REFERENCES

That said I could do with some help and education:
I have aquired a 3Kv X 3Kv 37mA NST and would like to protect it ( if it is needed) from drawing too much current.
I WILL FIT A TERRY FILTER

How do I calculate / design/ measure/ test a ballast for my project
(Do I: make one ( sorry 2)- platic pipe , filled with transformer laminate, wrap with wire; connect to dummy load and the NST and check the voltage before and after ... calculate the current restriction .. or visa versa ??


I have been building ignition coil Hv supplies so far BUT I ALSO HAVE A 5KV 100ma NST

NSTs don't need any ballasting because they are internally current limited. Just be careful when driving a Tesla coil, to always use a "Larger Than Resonant" tank capacitor.

I is also not a bad idea to use a fused variac to power up your primary transformer as this will allow you to catch problems before you achieve full power and start frying components/wires.
