hi guys.. been reading the forum for awhile now but is first post..
I'm a slight noob to coiling but am on (almost) gen 5 of my SGTC .. about to go to gen 6 when my wire arrives for the new secondary...

but my question is:

After experimenting with dry rolled Polly caps, i have found that bottle caps perform MUCH better... but I'm wasting allot of energy with corona round the tops o the bottles... is there anything i can do that will help prevent this??

(I'm sorry about the bad pic, but i had to take it with my phone as my camera is on holiday with my sister ATM)

use insolated wire with ~2" of bare in the bottel. put a bit of oil in thetop of the bottle to prevent arcs. also wraping the bottle in metal duct-tape, then in electrical tape.

i am having no trouble with corona around the wires etc... just on the top of the foil with small arcs running to the top of the water level ... i will try and level the water to the foil as much as poss and improve the insulation around the top (i do have tape on it but its clear packing tape.. i can never seem to find the piles of insulation tape i own) and see what happens

Packing tape in my experiance has been crappy. I use electrical tape in a few(usually 2) layers to make everything tight and sealed. Are You using tin foil as the outer conductor? because when You use metal tape, it sticks to the bottle and makes a better contact--more nF

i am using Al foil but i wet the bottles down with a lil water before rolling them (this help get the foil tight when rolling cause it sticks to the bottle) and i can see by how the foil wrapped that this is probably as good as metal tape would be (also no glue in between :P) i will add some tape round the top and see what happens... thanks...

(hopefully the bottles are only temporary anyway... going to build a MMC, spending my money on other thing ATM though)
