I have finally finished my rotary gap tesla coil. The secondary is three feet long with 30 guage wire on it. I used a MOT with voltage dubler for DC charging the main tank cap. The rotery system uses a 1/4 HP AC motor with four brass bolt electrodes on a PP disk. Unfortunately, I am only getting just shy of one foot arcs. I have already tried tuning it.

How about some detailed specs? Tank cap size/type, primary turns, etc...

Tank cap is a doorknob MMC which is 40kv at .001uf. The primery has four turns and the secondary has around 1500 turns. The motor rotates at about 1015 RPM. I didn't have time to debug the coil yesterday because of a long bike ride. I fired it up again and I still don't know what is wrong, some members can obtain thick toroid to primary strikes by using MOTs.

Yeah that does sound small. Especially with that primary you have. What size is your secondaryand what awg wire are you using?

"tank cap is way too small."
I thought so. They are the only HV caps I have. I had sold my maxwells(35kv at .03uf) a while ago. They would of been much better.
