Hi all,
here's the first coil I've had running successfully in my apartment (rite of passage for me ;) -- he goes at ~9MHz, and draws about about 120V, 1.5A.

Class-E topology, single IRFP450 as switching device. It makes nice flappy white flames when discharging near a groundplane, though I'm having reliability issues with the MOSFET (a 'mere' gate drive problem as usual).

Hi matt!

The coil is pretty. And performance looks darn good considering the mosfet you are using at 10Mhz and 200 Watts! I personally wouldn't expect very much more of system like this at that frequency. suprised

Lately I had some new ideas for high frequency gate-drive and switch design wich are still confidental.. I just don't want to stack more unfinished projects sad

Glad to hear the move went ok smile

You make 9mhz at 200w seem easy, I remember when 4mhz using 'real' fets was a big achievment!

keep up the good work!

9Mhz is very impressive. You got 4.56Mhz to go to get to 13.56Mhz barrier.

I'm really hitting a "ceiling" with the IRFP450... it's gate capacitance is just too high to swing, and I feel its output capacitance is also a limiting factor (I'm not even using a shunt capacitor =P)

My next goals include some off-line work. I'd like to get a small coil going in class-E from rectified mains (340Vin, here), which implies at least 1500V devices (or clever combination of a few 500V devices ;)

And I'm running out of IXDD414s... I have only two left =(

Wow, another fine coil you made there!

I gave up playing with Class-E coils a while ago because I ran out of patience tuning them, but I should try again... Do you feel like drawing up a little diagram of how your circuit works? I guess you are resonating the gate capacitance, so it would be nice to know a couple of ball-park values for the components to use there.

My compliments BP... 9MHz is an accomplishment! With all the harmonics you are probably emitting on 27 MHz, I bet a few CBers are squealing! ;)

Nice coil, BP! and nice apartment too. RFI can be a problem, but if your local CB scene is anything like mine, it needs all the jamming it can get wink

Hi guys..

Regarding harmonics, TC's aren't actually all that efficient radiators.. but even if little EM escapes it can still create a mess! Coupling of RF to mains is probably a much bigger problem.

I'm just curious, how efficient it roughly is? I can imagine your mosfet dissipates quite a lot of power considering your heatsink size.

Much better...?

Do I dare apply power?
