I wondered about this since I purchased a large emi filter from mendelsons, it was like 240v/30amp or something... only like $5. But those filters are designed to keep noisey line current from comming into a sensitive device arent they? In which case our goal would be to keep the noise inside our device and prevent from backfeeding into the mains... so shouldnt it be hooked up in reverse?

To the best of my knowlege, line filters are designed to prevent exactly what we are trying to prevent: a noisy device from feeding crap back into the mains. That is why they are used on switching power supplies. The power supplies are very noisy (what with the switching and all) and the filter chokes it out before it gets back into the mains and interferes with other stuff. Of course, I am always open to being corrected...

I like the ferrite idea, even though there are already ferrites in the line filter.

The ferrite was a stop-gap solution (if you can call it a solution) until my filter arrives. I didn't expect it to do much, but it was the best I had. It was a giant 3" sucker from Goldmine.

So the coil ground has to be completely seperate from the house ground? My dad just installed a 5' ground (those solid copper bars) for the house when we had our service upgrade to 200amps. I was planning on just tapping onto that.
It's in a somewhat convenient location too. If I did put my own in, it would only be 5-10 feet away from the other one.

You don't have to stake your TC. You can use a large conductive sheet if its more convienent for you. It can also improve performance depending on how large it is. That is to say, if your TC is slightly out of tune, varying the size can help adjust it. I proved this when I was using a 1'x2' sheet, then put a 2'x2' sheet on the side of the other one and the system ran better.
