Yes i will start with my chosen oil. But infiltration with age also becomes a concern. permeability is the enemy. A sphere seems non-ideal as is resists changes easily like a submarine, maybe a flat-ish bag of polyethylene ?

Link2 here is the coil winder. i have to turn a special part on a lathe that can be 3d printed. And im trying to figure out how to run 2 stepper motors at the same time. One slower than the other.

The fast one will turn the coil, the slower one will advance a horizontal slide uniformly, but im not good at writing Arduino code.

I use this type of winding machine for more than 50 years. Recently I rebuilt giving a nice shape

I have used for electronic coils, medium power transformers and also heavy welding transformers
