Electrolytic capacitor reverse voltage question.

Just had a crazy notion: since your diodes are way overkill for the current you could actually try lowering their Vf by deliberately heating them!
I know it runs counter to everything we normally do with semis, but then Vf is not usually the super-critical parameter.

I too have experienced exploding electros - though that was because the tech put the damn thing in backwards. The smoke is most unpleasant.

I was sort of thinking along similar lines.

The bus bars they will be bolted to should warm up in use, especially if I locate them in the warmest part of the amp.

The transformer I'm currently using does get pretty warm in use, but the housing it's currently in also houses the rectifier and a cheap electro.

I won't be using the cheap electro in the final design, and I've not finalised the rectifier yet, I'm just using the one that came with the transformer (originally a 5A 24V battery charger).

I may ultimately go for a lower Vfd rectifier, just to get another volt or two, but if all the doides are located in the warmest part of the amp, it will tend to lower the Vfd.

It is counter-intuitive, though, but a project like this is all about attention to detail wink
