This is my 833A VTTC which I completed 6 months ago. It took about 4 months to build because I wasn't in a hurry. Parts came from what I had on hand, salvaged microwave ovens, a local surplus store, dumpsters and E-Bay. The base is made from a solid 1/2 inch thick aluminum sheet which came from a salvaged HF antenna coupler. This base is extremely rigid and is also an excellent ground plane.
My goal was to have a completely self-contained unit that I could take to local schools for demonstrations. I also wanted open construction so that the parts could be seen. It weighs about 70 pounds but is still transportable. Currently my maximum spark length is 20 inches when using the interrupter. I could get more with a beefier MOT but then it would weigh even more. I incorporated a PFC capacitor to minimize the load on the 120 volt circuit breaker at schools I may visit. The PFC capacitor reduces the wall current by about 4 amps.

Thanks for the kind words. I already had a lot of the parts from previous projects. I probably spent a total of about $500. Assuming that you could get the microwave oven parts free, I would estimate that this could be built for no more than $750 if you had to buy everything else depending on your sources.
