Long term could be 50 years.
Asbestosis and smoking can take many years to show damage.
Cannabis too maybe !

I think if a person ever develop some widely known health problem related to this, the medics will never think that was the cause. Thay will just say, oh it is the age bla bla.

hello,

long-term effect of electrification from a scientific article (extract)

Electroporation: exposure of cells to electrical impulses
permanently destroys the cell membrane

(Do not forget that depending on the circumstances, everything electrified is
polyagressed and traumatized:
- fracture (s), blast, intoxicated ...
- rhabdomyolysis, renal failure, hyperkalemia ...
- etc ...)

"The organs are not "equal":
The brain, lungs, heart, liver, kidneys are 40
times less resistant than the skin

I put the link, but it is written in French cheesey

CONFESSION :

Like most of us here I believe that arcs from a T.C. secondary are potentially lethal.

So even though my largest TC was only 100's W,
I never once took an arc to my body, I was careful and partly scared. (thrill implies perceived danger)
During my life I have received more electrical shocks than I'd like to admit to, but I prefer not receiving shocks :)

I honestly do not know how potentially dangerous TC secondary arcs are,
for the table-top coils that I've made, I suspect 'not very'
but I have always been cautious because the greatest perceived risk is having arcs connect the primary and secondary circuitry -to me.
Even then, it would be from an NST or OBIT secondary, which are current-limited for human safety, with a little energy from the capacitors.

I too believe that large (kW's) coils are more risky,
the guys in the video were foolhardy - but they survive - no Darwin Award.

I have always treated TC arcs as being potentially lethal - but without knowledge, when the topic came up I could not resist ;)

I was hoping that someone here would do my work for me and find cases of death or chronic harm,
and as no one here has provided any data,
less experienced coilers may wrongly assume assume that there is no risk.
There is, in my opinion, significant risk to health and life,
but coilers have always been careful, and encouraged others to be careful.

A lack of data is not proof - so please continue to 'play safe'.

Ignore this post or if you have the power, please delete it.
I clicked reply instead of modify so all of what I wanted to say is in the post above.
Sorry for accidental double post.

it's a post to follow, and I agree with your last sentence.

My medium sized Tesla coil is finished (5kw, so it is in the high power category) I will be very careful.

A big problem (as in the video) is having too much insurance.

still a funny link
