Go for a SiC Mosfet - search one with matching specs. They will likely be a bit faster.. If a class E fails, it is very possible that the output network is not correct. Have you checked that the output driver has correct ZVS/ZCS switching? If not, no other mosfet will help... if its a proven design, the failure isnt caused by the proven component.

thanks for the advice
Eastern voltage reasearch tells me to reduce the coupling of the coil, which will cause a drop in power. then they advise against changing the transisor, otherwise the characteristics of the circuit will be changed.
how to measure zvs / zcs, i'm only a simple oscilloscope without high voltage probe?

,..buying a high voltage probe I recently completed my set of 4 (now) with P4100. Its not cheap, but affordable ach worth it given the transistor price.

the mosfet usually switches closes in negative cycle and opens in the positive cycle over the cap. the voltage that develops can be high maybe exceeding the ratings of the mosfet. so does the circuit have a ZVS across the mosfet and is the turn on time correct across the mosfet
