Alo !

I have opportunity to work with magnetic amplifier in the 1972 , it was a power supply that provide current to the field of a synchonous generator.
It was three magnetic cores controlling the excitation current.
the system was very stable but the cores were big cores because of 60Hz system frequency

Now I saw youtube the video of Nyle Steiner a really interesting amplifier, all work at 35kHz. so the cores are very small.

Link2

1- were I can get literature and information about mag amp operating at 35-50kHz?

2 - I need also information how to construct a inverter operating at 35-50kHz, providing 12volts, 1amper.

any information will be very welcome.

thanks

Newton

I have a TTi EX354T switchmode bench power supply that uses magamps for pre-regulation on the secondary side. Service manual with some explanation is available here:

Hi Hydron,

Thanks for the information, despite your PS be nice it appears to be to much sophisticated to the purpose.

I am going to read the complete manual, and eventually i will be in touche.

regards

Hi, magnetic amplifiers were actually used by the German Navy in torpedoes.
Interestingly in historical context Tesla was experimenting with the technology but at the time the sheer ingenuity wasn't appreciated.
I reverse engineered some of the original notes and determined that Tesla may have actually been using these right up until his New York lab burned down but subsequently abandoned that line of research due to the need for rectifiers.
