I think I would rather be dead than blind. Please use protection.
Safety aside, I think that is the coolest thing I have ever seen.

The sarcasm is very cute. Time teaches us maturity and to accept being "corrected" from time to time, that is what we call wisdom.

I'd like to see you burn a hole in the side of full soda cans and beer cans, shaken up of course. Maybe even a glass bottle, see if the thermal shock can cause it to explode, or if the beam just passes through.

Normal safety glasses are cheep and some of them can cut down UV as well :)
I'm impressed with the power supply part, well done.
Does the voltage doubler act as a current limit / ballast for the tube?

As others have said, infrared light eye safety varies hugely with the wavelength.

Power for power, the most dangerous is the very near infrared, with common wavelengths between about 780 and 1080 nm. These not only reach the retina, they are brought to a focus there, while our reflex protections against suddenly dazzling light are not triggered.

Here is one official safety standard Link2 that includes this snippet:

yup... even in 10.6µm this is in the order of milliwatts, and that is easy with reflections

It should be noted at laser powers beyond 0.5W, the diffused light from the beam hitting a white wall, metal object, or even diffraction from the air can cause damage to your eyesight. I did a serious bit of research about it as I recently purchased a 100W Greenlight laser system for a project I am working on.

You may not even know the damage is happening to your eyes until it's too late. It can take time to manifest.

Read through these:

It is just the "code" you need in the youtube tags: "dZRTNON-Q8E"
