I suppose the last thing the zoo wanted was to have a gorilla kill a 4 year old. not something they could risk.

Apes are intelligent animals that belong in the wild, have a documented one-handed pull of 847 pounds, and sometimes eat smaller primates for meat.

The scared kid should have played dead instead of screaming at a territorial animal.
However, the park employees made the right call given the Darwinian quod erat demonstrandum situation...

Humans are not that different, but stand-your-ground laws don't apply to Apes.
