I used to use FEMM 4.2 al the time, but I cant remember the buttons to press to get a simulation.

I can get the mesh generated, but the "sprocket" and "glasses" buttons just yell an error at me like jerks.

im missing a simple path here I just can figure it out with the wiki and pdf's that are out there.

Some error in the structure being simulated. Try something simpler.

I don't think theres an error in the object. I think I just don't know what buttons to press.

"gear with hand crank" icon to solve.

"glasses" icon to display solution

What is the error?

those to buttons just generate an error. I think are are things before those buttons that are supposed to be done. but I don't know what the path is.

You are likely missing boundary conditions. Share your file.

Der Ali is probably right, create a large circle around your structure as a boundary condition. It's been a couple years since I've used FEMM but I think that's it.

Have you set up your solver correctly?

You have no materials set and no exterior boundary.. also you have 2 points in "nowhere" with no properties.. how do you expect the solver to solve this?
Ok you have 2 conductors defined with 0V and 1V thats a start.. but how should it mesh or solve? shall it mesh to infinity or your screenboundary? wink

Look: the error you get is a perfect description of what your problem is
---------------------------
femm
-------------- -------------
Material properties have not
been defined for all block labels
cannot analyze the problem
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Soo.. first of all: define your blocks (conductors and air regions)
Then set block labels in every! block
And use usefull boundary conditions.
´
The solver is like a human.. you give not enough information it wont cooperate. Just think about if you were asked to draw an electrostatic field... the first thing you would cry out: "how much of it - it extents to infinity, oh i will die doing it!"

Here you go.
]electrodes.zip[/file] Its surely not what you want and i have set no outside boundary condition but it computes and gives you a colorfull image.
Use it as a start.
