Maybe some of you want to show this to a child in elementary or high school for a science project. Who would think that a paper clip motor would go this fast.

Heh. Yeah, I had an idea for a solar motor a while back, actually got as far as posting some vague outlines on sci.electronics.misc but couldn't afford the materials to test it.
On the bubject of serendipity, I inadvertently observed the optical displacement effect from pyrolytic graphite around the same time as the big KaBOOM at Hatfield, Hertfordshire. My makeshift seismometer consisted of a piece of graphite hovering over a Halbach array in my shed window, came back that afternoon (it was a clear day) and the graphite was on the floor and (wrongly) assumed the seismic effect was responsible. Pretty sure the Sun hit one side and destabilized it, years later the news in Japan re. the discovery that lasers can make pyrolytic graphite move around broke.
