I've had a quick run with the Mazzilli driver as in my previous post, running off of 4 full alkaline AAs.

The driver starts up fine and small to medium sized sparks (the beginnings of an arc) form when the pointy wire ends are about 15mm away from each other and can form a steady arc if they are carefully brought closer together. Bringing them too close, however causes the input voltage to sag too much and the MOSFETs latch up. Luckily the internal resistance of the batteries that cause the latch up also prevent the MOSFETs from burning out. The current without an arc being drawn is about 2.8A and once latched up, it's limited to 4.5A by the internal resistance of the batteries, which I calculate to be a total of 1.42ohms, the input voltage under the open circuit load being, therefore, 2.42V (sorry, I couldn't measure it) and power draw being 6.77W.

Wonderful! Your are really nice.. Many thanks for your help. Your calculation were really aproximate. However seem that this circuit isn't what we are looking for. Some type of current limitaton is needed because I want that the circuit will be short circuit proff. And since the voltage drop... Mosfets gate voltage is a problem. I'm still convinced that to run 10-20kv from 6v the flyback topology is what we need.

About the output capacitor voltage measurament... What really worry me is connect the high voltage side with the arduino.. Seem like very dangerus (for the uc) but to measure phisically may be is the only way. Really I don't trust in CT and optocouplers need a lot of current. In the 10ma order so... If finally I'll go with the arduino way perhaps meaaure it with the Toff aproximation.

Thank again... I must continue investigating.... I'll update any progress... Soon, I hope.
