I found that if you use --very-- thin gauge wire, even less than 30AWG (like flexible thread), you can precisely adjust a slight straight slope for very long wire lengths by pulling the wires UPWARD by their tops. I have even gone from NST-on-floor to wire-at-ceiling with easily adjustable gap--the main trick is that the wires don't hold a -bend- It's texture is actually thread-like. Make sure the narrow gap is the lower gap and that the the wires rise straight up--gravity!!!
What are the specs of that transformer (mA and kV)?

that is the most amazing 12 V @ 5 A arc that I've ever seen !
for less than perfectly straight metal wires, if you clamp one end and pull the other (thicker wires will need leverage) when the wire stretches just a little, less than 1% elongation, stop pulling. The wire will be amazingly straight !
tinned or enamelled copper wire work well, the tiny % elongation does not seem to damage the insulation. good enough for my uses.

you need to look for a LOT higher voltage and a LOT lower current--usually it's somewhere on the transformer with the ladder leads attached. I don't know where you are getting 12V @ 5A but it is NOT from the spark source transformer, and it's too big for a solid state module--in agreement with Sulaiman, and accounting scaling, that's the best JL arc I have seen.

Quite a nice setup, you have a mains transformer (a 12V one, I am assuming) rectified and smoothed powering a Mazzilli driver attached to a flyback transformer. Looking at the number of turns your output will probably be about 20kV at 5-10mA
