Just a warning for others not to make the same mistake I just did.

I bought a couple of tubes of 2-part epoxy resin glue cheaply (Poundland in UK)
and used it to pot two MMC banks.
The epoxy is pale straw color when mixed and smells a bit like ammonia.

I don't know what's in the epoxy resin
- but it conducts electricity at only a few hundred volts per mm

Saved a little on the potting - lost two MMC banks mad mad mad mad sad frown dead

x-( indeed! I guess there's no way of salvaging the caps? Air might not be a terribly good insulator, but it's really easy to remove for servicing wink

I usually use air only,
this time I thought I'd make a good job of it cry

With one resistor per capacitor and inter-wiring I couldn't recover the capacitors
which are now in the bin mad

Yep, air definitely rules as insulator and you don't really need much better than that.
And I say it looks even better than epoxy 'pro-like caps' when caps are arranged nicely.

Maybe four your resin, if resistance of epoxy is high enough you have just a bit lower bleeder resistance. (tried powering the cap?)

I was obivously too tired or something, started writing nonsense again.

One near-topic question; I have a cheap source of 680nF 630V MKP caps, and I wonder if they are any good for DRSSTC?
I'm afraid that's definitely off topic (check the thread title). Just start a new thread.

'normal' (Araldite) epoxy resin glue is excellent for eht potting
it's just the cheap c?@p that I bought that's no good.

Usually I coat hv stuff in polyurethane varnish because
it keeps out dust and grime and looks good.
(hv resistor chains etc.), (not too good with eht @ hf)
OR rely on air and long tracking distances
which leaves stuff easy to modify/repair/recycle

Hmm, this is very interesting. Thanks for the heads up.

Unfortunately I used this to repair quite a few pieces of equipment, hopefully they will work OK.

Thanks for the warning; Any thoughhts on washing the stuff off?
Normally that's near impossible with epoxy but if it's a bad resin there might be a chance.

Tried soaking in 'White Sipit' (petrochemical alchohol substitute) for days - no better
I couldn't be bothered to buy/test other solvents / I got angry with it & dumped the lot

Sulaiman and BC, acetone will eat the epoxy (makes it tacky and/or crumbly depending on type) in a few days... just make sure the container is well sealed. wink
