Hi all.
I had some intriguing thoughts today which led me to find this.
It occurs to me that a lot of inventors could have had their flashes of insight because of low level psilocybin contamination associated with contaminated bread. A lot of early references exist throughout the 1700s supporting this idea, as it is often said that people come up with ideas under stress or other circumstances which overwhelm the normal inhibitory circuits in the brain that allow everyday tasks to be done.
Could it be that we have overlooked psychedelics as a way to increase inventiveness by hyperconnecting normally isolated brain regions, allowing for example words to be seen as images? It is often said that Picasso first became a painter in his 20's which would be about right for late onset ASD/synaesthesia. Maybe Tesla's flashes of insight were derived from something as mundane as contaminated food, which uncorked the bottle so to speak and allowed the geni(us) to escape.

Humm... Or, just maybe, Tesla's genius was entirely natural, and didn't depend on psychedelics... If your hypothesis was correct, there would be far more genius around when food was more likely to be contaminated.

What I am saying is that everyone could have the potential to be a genius but most people haven't figured out how to unlock it yet. Certainly many religious figures *may* have been under the influence so to speak, a lot of painters heavily used entheogens and psychedelics notably Picasso, even our very own Victor Hugo was noted for imbibing absinthe and other interesting concoctions.
