so whow do submarine or other high pressure bearings work? they have to rotate a shaft and support it, yet not flood the torpedo, ship or submarine at 1600 feet deep.
how do they do this?
i dont see how these work, or if there evev the right thing to look at.

By analogy with the crankshaft of an engine:
The load-bearing bearings don't have to touch water, and can be actively oiled. The water seal doesn't have to support a mechanical load except water pressure. (and can probably tolerate some leakage).

ok then ill use fiberglass filled with something... im puzzled on the geometry though. These are some pretty detailed pics, but they show the front bearing, with the one sealed face. Im getting between 0.8 and 1.2 horsepower, depending on tuning.

look up "rotary lip seal". The water pressure forces the lip onto the shaft, the greater the water pressure, the better the seal. Grease is usually trapped in the void on the other side of the lip to help keep it lubricated.

You can use these things altough I believe that you still would need to provide a water seal (either a traditional shaft seal, or a magnetically coupled feedthrough)
