Hi
I'm thinking about selling chemicals to another supplier, and they are asking for chemical tests to be done.
I was wondering what that involves and what company in NZ would do that.

Any extra info welcomed.

Thanks
Andy

Hi Shrad
The chemical is acetone, Who would do those type of tests, do they do it every month on a random batch/once a year, do they look at the system. I've got to find out from the supplier what they will find acceptable, to get 100% purity I will have to use copper sulphate to remove water which will leave traces, would that be a problem. How much do you think they will charge. What amount to they test, 10ml,200L. Do they test the steel drums, what cert do I need for them, is that apart of the tests.

The supplier just is asking for a testing document, could you add to the "etc"

Thanks

I imagine that your first concern would be safety,
regulations regarding storing and processing
significant quantities of a very volatile flammable liquid.
Maybe your local fire, police and civil authority need to know / give approval ?

Regarding testing, that would depend upon your clients requirements,
pharmaceutical and industrial grade for example.

Hi Sulaiman
It will be industrial grade. Regarding storage, it has to be in a brick building with the approate signage. The processing looking at Link2 it should be ok. I will be ringing the local council for permits etc, but I'm more worried about the testing, as it could make or break the idea.

Why ask here when googling "chemical test lab nz" provides half a dozen leads. Get on the phone - if they can't help you you can bet they will tell you who can.

P.S. acetone is a pre-cursor for methamphetamine and as such may be subject to special regulations/tracking etc.
Be sure who your clients are !

Thanks Sulaiman, I'm trying to only deal with major suppliers.

2Spoons, I have rung up some of them, but they would like to know what test I want done. I can get that off the client, I was just trying to fast track the thing.

don't your brick buildings have to be ATEX to hold volatile and explosive products? (ie special compliant electrical installation, no phones or RF devices, etc...)

If I go to a hardware store where you are, do they sell methylated spirit (denatured alcohol)
Do they take my 'phone off me before I go in?
