Can you discharge a high voltage cap into a electron accelerator

The values are not 100% accurate with regards to 1amp, more like 1 nA,

Would like to make a electron particle accelerator, to replace the middle spark gap, but to slow down the electrons instead, and maybe ajust the timing to be able to get a large mass of electrons building up before they hit the floating plate.
Has anyone got a general layout of a accelerator or some links.

As I stated above, the 'general layout of an accelerator' is that protons are accelerated from anode to cathode, and electrons are accelerated from cathode to anode. Intermediate plates will not hold a charge, or not much, anyway. As charge starts to build, electrons will be 'accelerated' from the 'plate' to the anode. IE, it will act as if the 'intermediate plate' isn't there.

EDIT: I've kept this answer as simple as possible, and I'm pretty certain this is 'basically' what will happen.

In some pictures you see resistors between the different circle plates to make a , if the plates are the same charge as the electron source at the opposite end, wouldn't that slow down the electrons, as they are climbing up hill. The outside plates would keep the electrons or protons in the centre, is that there main function?
