Cool.
With your current specs, you need just 2,5 microhenries of primary inductance to run at 1 Mhz.
According to wintesla, this would be something like 5 turns of 1/4'' thick tubing, spaced another 1/4in with inside diameter of 2''. You can also use some kind of aluminium/copper strip if it comes you handy.
Fatter conductors in general may also help reducing losses.
With your current bps it seems that you can widen your gap for quite a bit more, since you are limited in power you want to run at about 100bps for maximum bang energy and spark length.
I would also increase topload for few times it's current size, try biggest size that doesn't look funny on the coil.
New secondary is probably 'later' on wish list, as current setup seems to be pretty capable for now, but if you want to return thiss one to triangular coil I would wind something with 0,1mm wire at about same size former for about 500kHz Fres.

Thanks for the input
I haven't touched this coil for a while, so I'll get back around to it soon and make some of those improvements. Ideally I want this secondary to go back on the other coil, so I'll throw some wire for a new secondary onto my next order and get a new one wound anyway. Stay 'tuned'

hi avalanche
100% of my 0,1mm wire was recycled from various old windings, it's usually easy to find and scavenge from old telephone relays, 240V relays, shaded-pole motors, transformers, degaussing coils, etc.
If you want even lower frequency you can get 0,05mm wire from cheapo 'quartz' alarm clocks.
They are available and probably worth less than the wire itself, although winding it is going to be little trickier without some kind of machinery!
If you are building new primary you can try to make it (or secondary raisable for coupling adjustment. I think that coil of such size could use some more coupling than current, but you must try that ^^
