More uninformed hype
I do not dispute the activity level however the most active will have the shortest half lives.
It Is unfortuneate but much much lower than Chenobyl
To put this into some sense people who international air travel are subjected to vast amounts but this is okay because it is nature.
A better way would have been to express this in Sieverts so we can gauge the real effect on people.

More uninformed hype, John.

You cannot ingest or inhale cosmic rays, so they can not continue to irradiate you once you have returned to a lower altitiude.

Asking for the equivalent dose in Sieverts makes no sense for the same reason.

It's a little bit alarmist but that article seems pretty well done to me.

This is horribly radioactive water, it's been in direct contact with the corium and would contain soluble radioactive elements with long half lives as well as short and probably even powder from the core itself.

They're currently up to INES level 3 just on this leak; it's just awful, I'm thinking it's going to go to at least level 4.

Helpful exposure chart visualization:

As a side note, it is around 100 times the maximum recommended safety limit at the surface....
This is currently worse than most areas contaminated by Chernobyl.
Japanese government bureaucrats hid the severity of the situation to prevent irrational panic, as psychosomatic symptoms in unaffected individuals are common in these types of distressing situations.

At this point all bets are off.
TEPCO should admit that they have lost control and hand over control of the Daiichi area to an international team of specialists.
In addition, all existing similar plants worldwide should have their licenses to operate past their design lives withdrawn immediately.

The main issue with TEPCO is that not only have they falsified records but lied to the world repeatedly about the levels of radiation leaking from the plant which puts the entire region at extreme risk.

In addition, social networks are blocking sites and removing posts linking to some pages which proves the existence of a massive cover-up.
