I have a few bit and pieces of sequencers, Poker Face, and other types, likely not used for 30 or more years. They are strung with electrode wire, that I have been told in another forum is Wollaston wire. These probably were taken from a lab after some use. Is there a way of determining how much silver is left on the platinum base wire? I have considered measuring the diameter of the wire with a micrometer but know nothing about what it was when new.
Does anyone know how the biology labs decided when the wire needing changing?
The object is getting some platinum wire from these things for experiments.

Why do you need to know how much silver is remaining? It may not be the easiest to obtain, but a dip in nitric acid will remove the silver and leave the platinum untouched.
