I did some research on this recently and I found it to be very interesting, Link2 The tower was used as an early warning system for the Soviet's Anti-Ballistic Missile system. However the tower remains in the zone of alienation around Chernobyl.

My fantasy is to sneak into the zone and repair/restart it to be my personal transmitter.

Fascinating stuff indeed.
Did anyone hear that some areas around Chernobyl are now more biologically diverse than the Amazon ?
Something to do with the lack of pesky humans methinks.

I heard of Vespa.fukushimensis, aka the Asian Colossal Hornet, a full 2cm longer than the Asian Giant Hornet..
Link2

Apparently the radiation affected them more due to the unique genetics of insects and high metabolism, increasing their uptake of radionuclides.

EDIT: Presumably the lack of samples for scientific analysis is due to to the scientists having instincts for self preservation.. ?
