Hi all,
Getting long-distance FM propagation of broadcast stations from Europe again here in the UK today.
Could here a station called " LE MOUV' " on 87.8FM clearly on the car radio in Newcastle (North-east England) with speech in French. Also another station called " RAC 1 " often came through on 87.7 MHz, in Spanish or Italian I think.
Both of these were in good quality stereo, complete with the RDS station idents I listed above.
It always amazes me that the weather conspires to bring in stations from many hundreds of miles across the water, and yet stations only 100-200 miles away in the same country weren't audible at all.

There is also a horizon effect which can guide some bands propagation along the same Longitude for vast distances. Although this only occurs in a very limited amount of time during a day, the broadcast power is well below local legal limits.

This is called TED or Trans Equatorial Ducting. It tends to happen during high air pressure events and can proporgate signals with almost no loss for 1000's of kilometres
