So I recently found an unlabeled laser in my drawer that I got from a sketchy guy in Greece in 2010. It's a green laser and the beam is occasionally visible under standard home lighting conditions (My room is slightly dustier). I know that green lasers are seldom below the 5mw limit. I'm wondering what is the power of the laser, approximately. Could I measure it with a multimeter?

BTW I have no idea how to make these images properly sized. Imgur seems to be failing at doing that. Could one of the mods please fix that or tell me how to fix it?

On a side note, one of my first attempts at light painting!

It took several tries to get the "ASHPoD" one right.

Hi, I'd be careful as a lot of the cheap green pointers don't have infrared blocking filters.
Maybe use the sensor from a faulty laser diode as this is usually pretty accurate if from a PS3 module etc.

Conundrum, I have virtually no equipment other than a few scrap components, a soldering iron, a multimeter, and a scope. And yeah, given that the laser was only 20 dollars (I later bargained two lasers, one for 14 and the other for 12, saying that I got the first one for 12. I gave one to a friend) it's highly likely not to have an infrared filter.
