This post is just what I needed, I have been thinking of hosting a sodium party and I've finally made up my mind.

Although, with this method of producing sodium metal, would you be running the risk of the sodium igniting as it is being produced? The reaction produces water, and while the water is gaseous can't the moisture in air around the sodium ignite it? Or is this relying on the remainder of molten NaOH to keep the sodium from igniting?

Guys, just be careful when trying this, I got some little burns, as shown in the video. It can get nasty if eyes are unprotected.
