Hi all.
Remember that alloy which melts in hot water? (Bi3InSn2Pb) ?

I had a thought. Is it feasible to introduce a very small percentage of iron or nickel into the alloy to make it formable using a magnetic field?

On cooling it would then retain its shape :)

This would be incredibly useful for a number of projects including custom optical mounts, as well as any project requiring rapid prototyping..

Hmm. The viscosity would be a bit high but it might work.

I already tried mixing some with strontium aluminate and melting it with a heat gun- might be worth someone testing this with iron powder.

Why don't you try it, since you said you have some of the stuff.
