Location of filliment transformer issue.

Hi there guys.
I have a question, which is mainly directed at terry but other input is apreciated.

Attached are 3 photos of my VTTC setup
every thing in the picture is where it will stay... (tentivly)

My question: Will the placement of this large iron core cause serious-slight power draw from my tank and secodnary circuits?

For refrence the filliment transformer is 9"x6.5"x11".
And it's 11 inches away from the secodnary.

Transformer near base like that is probably OK (just take care not to have rings or metal plates around/under the primary and etc.
What is the supporting table made from? Is it completely steel, painted wood/plastic?

And I definitely like the secondary former..

Hi,

I think it wil be ok. The transformer core laminations are at 90 degrees to the voltage field so that will do a lot right there. I would try to keep it as far away as practical without too much worry.

I simple test is to test the primary circuit tuning point with and without the transformer in place. But I doubt you will see much shift at all.

That's going to be a BIG tube coil!! amazed

haha thanks guys i can rig up a half bridge and test the primary (yet to be built :D)

the supporting cart is made of HDPE

Transformer is definitely nothing to worry and I don't thing difference with and without it would be measurable.

But be sure to ground the transformer core.
Otherwise you can easily burn the winding isolation and destroy that transformer and replacing this one is hard for sure.
If theres any chance of a spark hitting the transformer or its related wires, put a shield of grounded wire screen around it.

Just for curiosity, what wire thickness do youplan using on that secondary?

Maybe you could go for a thicker wire to increase Q as posible, and use bigger topload..?

That tube can safely go up to 40Mhz amazed

haha yeah firkraqq it CAN go to 40mhz, but there is no way i can make a sizable secondary that can, unless a wire would work tongue

right now im looking at using 18awg wire, for a resoant frequency of 80khz O_O

sad i know

what do you guys predict the output will look like?

Maybe bifilar or trifilar winding ala blackplasma could help there wink
(altough I admit it's tricky to wind)

The point would be to increase unloaded Q as much as possible and put a big toroid onto the coil, making it break out from it without b. point for some long streamers.

I like this with SSTC's bt I think it's best that some real VTTCoilers help you there...
