I don't have any good flybacks left, in fact only one, did have like 15...

How would I wind my own, what wire? I have tried but never had enough wire, I just ended getting a MOT like arc with ZVS.

So as flyback are wound primary on a ferrite then secondary on the primary, do you have to do it like this? how would I insulate it?

Sorry...

been there done that.

I did a few hundred turns of 0.15mm wire on a piece of plastic pipe and got up to 10cm long arcs with around 600 watts input, voltage out was about 1-2kV with a current of a few hundred mA.

Heres what i got Link2

I used a small pvc pipe connector for the coil form.

.202mm or 32awg

3000 turns 120 per layer, 25 layers

overhead projection sheets for insulation. 2 layers

good luck

With lots of electrical tape, lots of magnet wire of around 26SWG, a core, several cups of tea and lots of patience.

No pets in the room either as they like to chew on the magnet wire and ruin the enamel coating.

Yes, I have a core, but a lot of them have weakened due to alot of excessive heat..

Could I use a ferrite rod?

Going to have to source some wire, it's hard to wind too, I tried winding a TC secondary, but about 200turns in it snapped... I could use a variable motor...

Use the wire out of the de-guessing coil from an old CRT, that is about 26SWG and it is where I got my wire from when I made my homemade flyback.

I don't think a ferrite rod would work. The flyback ferrite cores you have will be fine, one of mine had a big chunk snapped off of it yet it still worked when I taped it back on as its only magnetically completed to the transformer.

Off topic but I have been awake for 40 hours straight so I am off for some well deserved sleep now.

Yes I will use a flyback core, anyway I have some old TV's so I have wire, but it's very thick and I tangles alot when I try to get it out from the TV...

I got this from 9 layers of so many turns of 0.2mm wire , i used lego to make a winder for it , didnt take long :D , i used standard A4 paper amd mineral oil to make the transformer and a small ferrite core , driven via ZVS at 40 volts .

I used a piece of all thread, 2 nuts and washers to sandwich the coil form in between, and a drill to spin it.
