How about simply putting some of the igbt's into their final intended application (SSTC/DRSSTC) and firing them up?

why does red fuming nitric dissolve the plastic and not the die, but if i put an IC into concentrated 70% (not fuming I guess) nitric acid it dissolves the insides out through the pin holes and leaves the shell unharmed?

I think its the presecnce of dinitrogen tetroxide in the RFNA that allows it to eat the plastic.

Did you use White nirtic acid? its not the same...

Probably a silly question, but has anyone attempted a laser decapsulation on an IC etc?

Marko, right now I don't have a TC circuit to test them in, just wanted to quickly identify if they are worth or not...

I'm sorry for bringing this topic back again, but...

I've bought exactly the same IGBTs (30N60A4D)

And they are fake, and exactly same looking as the ones on the first post.

Also happened with cheap IRFP460N s and the difference from original ones is very big.

I've tested them on an Induction Heater and the 30N60A4D s simply do nothing!!!! No output waveform and the gates being switched nice! (Worked pretty good with genuine mosfets that I have like IRFP260N s)

The IRFP460N s on the same test got very very hot within seconds of operation.

Take a look at the photos and see the differences:

First pictures are both fake 30N60s. they are bad marked as "30N60A4D" and not "G30N60A4D" or something like that on original ones.

The last pictures shows clearly visible differences between fake IRFP460N and original IRFP260N, the IRFP260N is even thicker that the fake 460N.

You can note some "filleting" on the initial "F" Of fairchild on original components. On the fake ones e "F" seems to be solid.

This last one, you can clearly see that the egde of the metal is flat, and the one on the left side is a little curvy, and the one from right (Original) is thicker.

Seems like on IR components the engraving of it is done on a lower square area as you can see on the pictures, an on fake ones the area is shiny and on the same level of the component (grinded surface).

Hope this helps someone too...

EDIT:

For my surprise I've hammered one IRFP460N and the die Size is pretty big! It has 9mm x 7mm

What do you guys think?

Hi there,

I would be very keen to upload some pictures of my findings with my experience of non-genuine IGBTS but 4hv forum doesn't seem to finish uploading it... Any advice?

Tried downsizing twice keeping file size only to 300K and changed the format from .jpg to .png, still having problems frown

I bought a fake 128Gb Micro SD card recently, did some thorough testing on it and established it was actually only 8Gb.

Ebay were very helpful and refunded my money in full, even the postage. I assume they banned the seller as well.

If you have established that they are definitely fakes, contact Ebay and give them all the information you can. They need this information in order to eradicate these criminals.
